What’s Within You?

Are you one of those people that feels like you should write a book about your crazy-a$$ life?

Yeah, me too. I suppose a blog that shares way more than I’m usually comfortable with is well enough, eh?! I don’t share to compare my apple to your apple, to say “hey, spotlight-check me out!”, or even to leave some memorialized digital journal of myself for when I’m long gone. I write, share, expose, and step way outside my comfort zone because many years ago I decided that for whatever reason and I’ve given up trying to figure out why, I had the strongest calling to support others while supporting myself. Truth be told, I have no idea where the ideas, advice, instincts come from and why I’m running the route that I am other than it just simply comes to me and calls. It feels right and wakes me up in the morning.

I once asked a friend if I’m a fraud because what I live and love didn’t come from school, or someone telling me what to do or what to say. School was just the way to reach people. Her explanation was brilliant…”well, have you thought about where an artist or musician gets their instinct or skill?” (Boom, mind blown) I flashed to all the talented children I’ve encountered that can grab a drumstick and go to town or those that can simply get math or science like it was learning to play with dolls. She was absolutely right. We all have a gift that simply comes to us. We may not have any clue where it came from.

Whether you’re religious, spiritual, scientific, all or none of these, the instincts are there within you. Like a dark secret for some or blatantly obvious for others, it’s in there. My belief is that when you find it (be it, as a child or still searching) it’s a remarkable feeling and it’s all yours. Life has a way of taking its pound of flesh and yet, it can’t take this from you. At least not completely. If you’ve lost it along the way, revisit and see if and how to recover those gifts that belong to you. Did you have teachers or parents say, “wow, that’s amazing” or do you find joy in something peculiar or different from others? What about those things that spoke to you but don’t pay the bills? These days you can get back to what drives you intrinsically and still make a buck or two on apps like Freelance, WorkMarket, Freelancer, or Fiverr. Or maybe a buck isn’t what you want; happiness, fulfillment is…whatever you’re after- Nike! Just do it and run. Well, maybe discuss with the spouse, partner, parent, friends and then get to it. Listen and find your calling and then answer the damn phone! Share your stories and the journey with us.
